Renaissance Art Gallery by Rachel Corleone

“Renaissance art is the painting, sculpture and decorative arts of that period of European history known as the Renaissance, emerging as a distinct style in Italy in about 1400, in parallel with developments which occurred in philosophy, literature, music and science.”

- Quoted from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaissance

A short intro for those of you who have no idea what Renaissance Art is. Indeed, I loved this gallery. So far, it is the only Renaissance-themed art gallery that I’ve seen around SL. And what a great variety of works one can find here! One of my favourite artists, the famous and incredible Leonardo da Vinci, is an artist of the Renaissance period. And if you’ve never heard of his name, you deserve a smack in the head from a bucket of paint!

As always, onto the art!

Birth of Venus

A real classic, this piece is typical of most Renaissance art, with it’s themes of mythology and religion.

“The Birth of Venus (in Italian: Nascita di Venere) is a paintingb y Sandro Botticelli. It depicts the goddess Venus, having emerged from the sea as a full grown woman, arriving at the sea-shore (which is related to the Venus Anadyomene motif). The painting is held in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.”

Parnassus

Wasn’t able to find out alot about this piece, but the reason why it caught my eye is that it has a lot going on in it, tiny details that people tend to overlook, but are awe-inspiring when you do notice them. It could have taken months to years to complete such a piece. I do believe this piece currently resides in the Palace of the Vatican, Italy. Can’t wait to see it myself!

For those of you love this style of art, or if you just love the culture of the Renaissance period where the Arts florished, I suggest you visit Rachel Corleone’s gallery! The atmosphere is peaceful and quiet, just the way I like it when viewing Art!

Jameson Architects Gallery of Fine Arts by JaiJ Jameson

Another great gallery find today!

This gallery caught my eye for the works here are very “natural” themed, a theme quite rare amongst the SL art I’ve seen so far. The photographs on display here, done by artist JaiJ Jameson, have been manipulated in such a unique and fascinating way! I have never seen pieces done in such a technique before. Nor would I ever think of combining so many diffrent elements into one piece of art.

Glass Sea No. 5 - Photograph by JaiJ Jameson

This collection Glass Sea just pops out! As the name suggests, the artist has managed to create a piece, capturing a part of the sea in a shard of glass. The colours are bright, cheerful and the longer you look at them, the more it seems like you’re underwater, staring at a coral reef with a myriad of sealife. It’s quite relaxing to just look and admire it. If I had an aquarium, I would want to have this whole collection as my backdrop~ There’s a pack containg 6 smaller Glass Sea pieces for sale in the gallery and the larger versions would be great for a centre piece in one’s house or shop, especially if you’re going for an underwater coral theme. My obsession with these must be due to my love of colour and my three watchings of Pirates of the Caribbean 4. Mermaids anyone?

Venice Gondolas – Photograph by JaiJ Jameson

This one just made me feel even more excited for November this year, for I’ll be going to Venice, Italy itself! After staying in the Venetian Hotel, Macau a few years back, I cannot wait to visit Venice and see how stunningly beautiful the place is! Oh oh, yes, back to this photo, it gives this misty, earling morning feel. I also like how the artist has played with the usual real life perspectives, where the further something is, the more blur it gets. Here it is the opposite, bringing attention to the docks and majestic bulidings in the background.

The contrast of the cool blues of the gondolas in the foreground to the warm hues of the clouds and builidings makes the background seem surreal, very heavenly and peaceful. An overall very charming picture; a scene worth Venice’s name.

Restraint (Opalite)-Bronze Sculpture

With colours of a milky opal, this sculpture resembled the Earth so much that I had to feature it here. I envy astronauts, for one of the most beautiful things that exist today are the planets, galaxies and space. Have you ever seen a 360 degree panorama shot that they took of the Earth from the Moon? It is gorgeous! My father showed it to me many years ago, but I’ve never forgotten the photograph! Googling “Earth panoramic photo” should be a good place to start!

We take the Earth for granted. We kill her slowly everyday, we suck her resources dry. It is estimated that hundreds of species go extinct each year! This piece, should be bought not only for it’s artistic quality, but also as a constant reminder that if we want our Earth to remain beautiful, we MUST play a part. Practice the 4 R’s: Reduce your waste, Re-use what can be re-used, Recycle what ever items you can and Replant the trees! Remember, everyone’s effort will add up, and through this, we can contribute back to our Earth.

And as always, for you art and nature lovers out there, do pay a visit to JaiJ Jameson’s gallery of Fine Arts!

Green Rabbit Gallery by Gwen Difference

June 20th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

Back to blogging about art galleries! Found the Green Rabbit art gallery quite some while back, at it’s then location in Chelsea. Unfortunately, the reason why I’ve not been able to enter the region since, due to said ‘Maturity rating’. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve tried age verification for the last 2 months but no luck! Is it because I moved from one country to another and Linden Lab cannot find my old and new addresses in the database they use? I gave up anyway. But for those who are able to enter whatever region they like, do pay Gwen’s gallery a visit.

I can’t put up any pictures from her gallery, (sadly, as I really did love a few pieces there), but I managed to contact her on deviantart! Plus she was very lovely as to allow me to feature her deviantart account instead! Shall point one a few of my favourites~

Though disturbing upon first glance, this piece simply overflows with emotion. Titled: Your Love Kills, the artist has managed to capture the feelings that we humans secretly bottle up, over things that, perhaps, we are not allowed to feel or rebel against. Of crumbling under pressure from the ones dearest to us, unable to answer back, to express ourselves openly without it coming back to harm us one day. Though my encounters with personal tragedy may be few, I can understand and see the meaning of the piece. The artist says she could have improved on this, but as a traditional artist myself, I can see this piece must have been on heck of a challenge to complete! Everything stroke, every line, every blend must be perfect, before we are happy with our work. Another thing I like about this is how the figures are in a tight loving embrace or a chilling death strangle. The oddly blank, yet appropriate faces leave the viewer to decide for themselves on what the figures represent. A chilling and provocative piece indeed!

surrealism dreams eerie art traditional emotional

Another traditional piece (Pencils+Paper=Magic), titled: Dreamscape one, this one of surrealism and conveys deep emotion too. What I enjoy about the artist’s works is that she is able to do a piece that stirs alot of different emotions and thoughts in the viewer, yet it is entirely up to the viewer to decide what the piece stands for. To me, this piece reminded me of a fiction I read, about how people hid away from the world, to sleep and dream, for their world was plagued with war and tragedy. They dreamt to escape, to pass time, and to hope for a better future. Sometimes, even I think that dreams are better than reality. Sadly the real world beckons at 8am every morning!

Gwen doesn’t have all her works on Deviantart, so that’s another reason to visit her Secondlife galley! I do remember seeing a few humourous pieces in world too, proof of the artist’s ability to do various genres of work! You may also be interested in her sites:

June 18th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

World’s End Garden may have gone through construction, but it is as beautiful and stunning as before, with perhaps a more eerie factor surrounding it. Lucia Genesis did a fantastic job once again. If you didn’t visit it the first time.. well…

Anyway, try sitting on those crosses in the middle of the lake, who knows eh? Enjoy my snapshots~

P.S There’s a new group gift out too! Join the group and find the gift inside the building when you first land in Heaven Lake.
